RicNic is an official Artsmark Partner Organisation
RicNic & Artsmark
Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England, recognising their commitment to high quality arts and cultural education. RicNic is proud to be supporting schools and education settings on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture. RicNic prides itself on giving young people a safe space to explore their creative potential and on exploring all aspects of the creative industries from performance to business management. Our programme has cross-curricular learning links, with opportunities for students to use the arts to show their performance and creative skills, build technical and media knowledge, explore project and budget management, learn about fundraising, develop persuasive writing skills and learn how to work with others. We offer education settings who are working towards, or currently hold an Artsmark Award, the following opportunities:
RicNic Engage Short Course
This two-day intensive workshop programme challenges students to set up and run their own theatre production company; taking ownership of every role on and offstage and working towards a performance showcase for a chosen audience at the end of the second day.
Through the workshop, students will
Learn about the range of career pathways inherent within the creative industries and the skills needed, from performance ability to IT skills, technical design to budget management, communications to sales.
Explore key attributes of building a resilient, successful and communicative team all working towards the same goal and learning to tackle problems responsibly and compassionately.
Work as part of a ‘department’ within the project, with specific responsibility for delivering a particular aspect of the project (e.g a stage performance, marketing and promotional campaign, audience development).
Build key skills of teamwork, communication, problem-solving, time and budget management.
Build self-confidence, awareness of others and their ideas.
All sessions are facilitated by the RicNic team who are specially trained to guide each session, while ensuring that the project remains youth-led throughout.
The workshops can work across the curriculum, with options for departments including (but not exclusively)
English/Drama Department – Script writing and Performance, Directing, Copy Writing
Music Department – Performance, Conducting, Sound Tech
Science, Mathematics and Business Studies – Production Management, Technical Design and Construction, Budget Management, Marketing
Art Department – Poster Design, Set Design, Costumes and Props
PSHE – Company Wellbeing, Audience Development and Customer Service.
Available for KS3/KS4/KS5. Costs for a 2-day workshop from £750.00 Please contact us for a full quote and to discuss your individual requirements.
RicNic Engage Tailored Projects
RicNic can also work with your students over a half/full term or full academic year to develop a larger youth-led project which works more intensively across more departments.
We will work with you and your students to tailor a plan to your requirements and budget, up to and including staging a full-scale musical theatre production at the end of the project.
On longer projects, we combine regular RicNic visits and check-in points, with student-led study. This approach offers the chance for an elected student Production Team to take on more of the developmental work on the project. They acquire a genuine experience of working as a Production Company.
Students will also have the option to work towards Arts Award to Gold Level.
Available for KS3/KS4/KS5. Please contact us for a full quote and to discuss your individual requirements.
