'Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear...'
It is with enormous pleasure that we announce the first of our summer shows: the rock musical Rent, which will be performed by RicNic London at the Stockwell Playhouse between 21st - 24th August 2019.
Rent was first performed in 1996. Written by little-known composer Jonathan Larson, who tragically died the night before the show opened in an off-Broadway theatre, the musical quickly proved a hit with audiences and gathered a cult following. It transferred to Broadway later that same year and is still one of the theatre district's longest-running musicals.
Drawing inspiration from the Puccini opera La Boheme, Rent is a celebration of friendship, community, creativity and otherness. To take a line from its most famous song, 'Seasons of Love', this complex but uplifting show reminds us to 'measure our lives in love' and live each day to the fullest.
We can't wait to see what our immensely talented RicNic London team do with Larson's most popular work - we're sure it will be a sell-out success! Keep an eye on our website and the Stockwell Playhouse to grab your ticket as soon as they go on sale: this is one show you won't want to miss.
