The RicNic Team are excited to announce the planned location for the next branch of RicNic will be Burton on Trent in East Staffordshire. Working with partners at East Staffordshire Borough Council and the Brewhouse Arts Theatre, we hope to launch RicNic Burton's first full-scale musical in August 2020 and will be working in schools, colleges and community organisations across the year to recruit a new company of RicNiccers!
Home to Bass Brewery, Carling and the Marmite factory (!) Burton on Trent is an industrial town on the border of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the West Midlands. The Brewhouse Arts Theatre is an amazing performance space, equipped with cinema room, technology suite and arts studio and we are pleased that this will be the home of the new branch going forward.
RicNic's Executive Director, Jennifer Smith, has been working with partners in the area this year and states "I have been overwhelmed by the level of enthusiasm and support for RicNic's projects that I have received from partners in Burton. There is a huge appetite for the hands-on experience across all art forms that RicNic can offer, and there is huge potential here for RicNic to have a great impact on our participants. May 1st is 'Staffordshire Day', a regional celebration of all that is creative and flourishing in the county. What better time could there be to announce our future plans to showcase the creative talent in the community!".
With three branches successfully established as a growing network in the South East, the team have decided to take RicNic's projects to a new area of the country, targeting regions with a lack of arts provision, and where we can make the most impact. Local authority arts funding has been cut considerably in and around East Staffordshire in recent years and at present there are few opportunities for young people to gain a professional, hands on experience of working in the arts. We want to change that and bring the excitement and life-changing potential of the RicNic experience to the region; creating opportunity both for local young people and for the venues and community arts organisations in the area.
Alongside the set up of the new Burton branch, we will be exploring other areas of the Midlands, leading pilot sessions and building partners, with a view to establishing a network of Midlands' branches in the next few years. We will also continue to work closely with our existing Hampshire, Oxford and London branches to develop further opportunities, expand recruitment and build new and exciting projects across the South East.
This is a pivotal time in RicNic's history and we are extremely excited about the potential for us to take RicNic to a wider audience, across all our existing and new branches! We are currently seeking funding to support this new phase in RicNic's development and are keen to hear from anyone with links to the region, interested in offering support.
Further information on how to get involved in RicNic Burton will be available shortly. If you would like further details on all of RicNic's plans or would like to discuss ways in which you can support us going forward please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
