Hi! I’m Jess and I am brand new to the RicNic Bristol Team, joining as a co-producer.
I had never heard of RicNic before I met Amy – the almighty force behind the RicNic Bristol but can’t wait to get to work on ‘Oklahoma!’ So as this is my first ever blog, I thought I’d share with you my own experience of musical theatre. My performance as Mr Brownlow in ‘Oliver!’ in year 6 (photo to follow – that’s a promise) did not really get the ball rolling so instead I moved on to choral stuff (funnily enough meeting Jamie – our director – along the way) and didn’t bother looking back onto the stage, except for an unhealthy obsession with musicals ranging from ‘Chicago’ to ‘Wicked’. After three trips to see ‘Phantom of the Opera’, I decided to have another go at it and was part of my school’s take on ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which was a lot more fun and turned out a million per cent better than my previous role even though I was just in the chorus. I then finished with school drama after another chorus part in ‘Noah’s Ark’ (again an odd creation by our drama teacher).
So now I find myself co-producing the amazing ‘Oklahoma!’ and this is a first for me - having never really thought about all the behind the scenes work but I'd like to think I am organised and will do a good job. So although Hugh Jackman won’t be reprising his role as 'Curly' and gracing the BCCS stage this summer, I am so excited to spend August with a great cast, making a great show!
