Looking back at Gypsy...
Gypsy, the classic musical by Arthur Laurents - with music from Jule Styne and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim - presented a new and exciting challenge for our talented RicNic team. A difficult musical with big dance numbers, lots of glitz and glamour, and an emotional storyline, our young company threw themsleves into the process with aplomb, producing a memorable show that lit up the Theatre Royal Winchester.
See for yourself by flipping through some of the photos captured by Trevor Morecraft during the dress rehearsal: it really was spectacular!
Here's a little selection that shows all the fun the gang had during the rehearsal process!

SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT: GYPSY
We are thrilled to announce that our summer 2018 show will be the breath taking Styne classic: Gypsy!
"Everything's coming up, roses!"
It's the 1920s and we are thrown into a frantic family running the vaudeville circuit, with Baby June and her farm boys in the limelight, but a powerhouse of a woman, Mama Rose, very much at the forefront of everyone's lives. Determined to give her daughters, June and Louise, the life she never got, Rose pushes them into showbiz, making many sacrifices to keep them there. But has she pushed too far?
Loosely based on the 1957 memoir of infamous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy tells the powerful story of one woman's dream to live her life through her daughter's success, and the great lengths she will go to to make those dreams a reality.
Much like our 2017 production of West Side Story, Gypsy has us looking at the brilliant collective work of Jerome Robbins, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents, with music this time by June Styne. The original 1959 production was nominated for eight Tony Awards, and Robbins' work was recognised as 'one of the most influential stagings of a musical in American theatrical history'.
If you're aged 16-21 and have a love of theatre, whether on the stage, behind it or below it then please do get in touch with us - we can't wait to hear from you!
